Trucchi e Consigli

• Marek Stopka: New packages in openSUSE Contrib
"I have few new packages in openSUSE Contrib repository and I would like tell you about them. So first one ins TorK, it is KDE user interface for great tool named tor it is very important for people living in freedom of speech restricting countries like a Czech republic is. Using combination of TorK and tor, you can communicate around the World using Internet with some kind of anonymity"
  • Fabrizio Montesi: OpenSUSE Package for Jolie
"Today, under a not-so-excellent-but-still-not-too-bad weather, I've decided to enter the dark school of packaging. The results can be found here: http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/fmontesi/openSUSE_11.1/ This means that now we've got a one-click installer for Jolie in openSUSE 11.1. Enjoy!"
  • Miguel de Icaza: Moonlight
"Now that Moonlight 1.0 is out, I should talk a little bit about Aaron Bockover's amazing Moonshine plugin."

  • Luis Medinas: Testing GNOME 2.25.90 on my main Workstation
"So after last week openSUSE packaging day, today i just upgraded my main Workstation to use the openSUSE packages builded last week on the Official repo. I was already testing 2.25.x on my jhbuild without any problems so far."
  • Jan-Christoph Bornschlegel: Product Creation with the openSUSE Build Service
"First of all, what is a “Product”? The openSUSE Wiki has the following statement on the Product Definition Article: “A product is a defined set of packages plus extra information”"
  • KDE.News: Plasma Team looks future
"Over the last weekend, the Plasma team held their second meeting in Porto, Portugal. The meeting was organised by Akademy Award winner Nuno Pinheiro inviting the Akademy Award-winning Plasma team to his home country. The meeting was kindly hosted by the Departamento de Engenharia Informatica (Department of Software Engineering) of the Instituto Superior de Engenharia do Porto. The Plasma team (and most probably many of the KDE users) are grateful for being provided this opportunity to collaborate on the desktop."
  • James Willcox: Fun with Studio
"I’ve been working on a new project now for a while called SUSE Studio. Essentially it is a web interface which allows you to build your own customized version of SUSE. You can select packages, do some configuration, and even add your own branding."

  • tschank: Broadcom Corporation BCM4310 USB Controller (rev 01)
"While the BCM4311 wireless chipset is supported by the b43 driver, the BCM4310 USB wireless chipset unfortunately is not. Forums member tschank outlines how to setup the BCM4310 USB wireless chipset with ndiswrapper utilizing the Windows driver."

On the Web

  • Tuxmachines: Free software isn't freeware - why Linux and FOSS have a higher standard
"Microsoft's recent survey proclaimed nearly half the population believe it is ok to use pirated software for personal use. This diminishes the argument by Linux advocates that you can use their operating system without any cost. Yet, you can't confuse free as in cost with free as in freedom. Here's what FOSS really means."
  • Joe Brockmeier: Why I won’t be buying the Kindle 2.0
"Amazon’s Kindle upgrade has left me cold, and not just because of the paltry feature updates and mild interface redesign. Once again, the online shopping giant is missing a big opportunity to make the Kindle more than a single-function dead tree replacement."
